New Youth Programs

Writers Corner USA is proud to announce new classes for young writers.  If your child has the urge to write, or has talent and needs a guiding hand from a professional writer in the field, we have just the right program!

Beginning October 2007 the Writers Corner USA will launch four new classes for young writers, two for HomeSchooled kids and two AfterSchool workshops.  Full descriptions are below.

Come join us on 6:30pm on Thursday October 4 for an informal chat with program creator and instructor Jonathan Maberry.  Find out about the programs, ask questions, see why these classes will help your child develop the skills and talent to become the best writer he/she can be!

Instructor: Jonathan Maberry has been a professional writer and educator for 30 years and is the author of 17 nonfiction books, 6 novels, over 1000 feature articles, as well as short stories, poetry, song lyrics, workshop packets, video scripts and plays.  He is a founding partner of the Writers Corner USA; a speaker for the National Writers Union; a writing mentor for the Mystery Writers of America; an active member of the Horror Writers Association and International Thriller Writers; and is the Executive Director for Career Doctor for Writers.  His 2006 novel, Ghost Road Blues, won the coveted Bram Stoker Award, and his writings in fields such as self-defense for women & children, and martial arts history contributed to his induction into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

So Here's the Story: The Craft and Art of Storytelling for HomeSchoolers

Time and Date: 2-3:30 pm.  This class is held on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of every month beginning Oct 10.  Students may join at any time.

Fee: $75/month

Program Description: Storytelling is the oldest form of organized communication and it exists in infinite variety.  Stories can be told with words (stories, novels, anecdotes, jokes, riddles, etc.) with pictures (art, sculpture, etc.), with music (songs of all kinds) and even body language (mime, etc.).  Stories don't have to be written down, and they don't have to be like anyone else's.  In this unique program bestselling and award-winning author Jonathan Maberry teaches the history of storytelling through a hands-on process.  Students will learn about different methods of storytelling and will then create their own stories in each mode (scripts, poems, short stories, oral stories, and more!).  Those students who want to perform or read their stories will have the chance during one of our exciting First Friday events.  Students may choose to have their stories published on the Writers Corner USA website (on a special page we're building just for this class).  This program cultivates the skills of imagination, communication, language, and more.
